Morning Message                             “Prayer “                                  Sylvia Wilhelm

You and your family are invited to join us for Homecoming, worship with us, and enjoy a wonderful meal afterward.  Reverend Sylvia Wilhelm, who served Monticello (1991-1996) will bring the morning message. We will also celebrate World-Wide Holy Communion Sunday, to celebrate Holy Communion with other Christians around the globe.  We look forward to a wonderful time together, visit with each other and maybe even see some folks we haven’t seen in a while.
Please bring a covered dish and a drink!

Welcome Reverend Sylvia Wilhelm
Rev. Wilhelm was born and raised in Mooresville. She is a graduate of South
Iredell High School, Asbury College, and Candler School of Theology at Emory
University. After a ten-year career in banking, she felt the call to ordained
ministry. She served numerous churches throughout the Western North Carolina
Conference, including Monticello from 1991-1996. She also served as a District
Superintendent in the former Lexington District. She retired from active ministry
in 2016. She currently serves part-time on staff at Maple Springs United
Methodist Church in Winston Salem where she resides.

Carolina BalloonFest
Friday – Sunday, October 14, 15 and 16th

The Back-to-School Bash organization has been given an opportunity to partner with a Girl Scouts group to work shifts at the Carolina Balloon Festival to raise money for the Bash. This opportunity has the potential of raising a sizable amount over the course of the weekend.
  • We will be given free admission and free volunteer parking.
  • We will be helping monitor children getting on and off inflatables.
This is an excellent opportunity for us to raise money well in advance of the BASH next year. If you are able, please sign up for a shift. It would be greatly appreciated! Please share this volunteer opportunity with your congregations as well.

This sign-up genius is set up for Girl Scouts. We will use this sign up for Bash volunteers.

Charge Conference                           Wednesday, October 26, 2022 @ 6:30 pm in Sanctuary
This is the season in the life of our congregation, when we are dreaming and visioning through prayer and discernment for the sake of Christ, setting goals for the coming year, nominating officers to lead us, expressing gratitude for those who have led us in the past and determining how we will provide human and financial resources to accomplish all we can for God’s kingdom in our community.  We can certainly add ministries down the road. This is not a static process. But this is a time to reflect and reach out to God through prayer for all that God is calling us to. We have the greatest hope and joy in the world to offer: Jesus Christ. There is a good bit of reporting that goes with all this and along with required reports, we also welcome reports celebrating areas of ministry you have led or been a part of.  Please have them to me a week before the 26th.

Vision for Ministry and Funding in Relation to Charge Conference
Finance Chair Bjarne Berg-Saether, on behalf of finance has requested leaders and ministry area chairpersons to let him know if there are any budget requests as finance sets the budget for 2023. For those of you who are coming on as leaders, it would be good to hear from you too. Please get in touch with him by October 9th if you plan to do so.
 Monticello UMC Trunk or Treat
Date and Time to be announced soon
We need Candy, lots, and lots of candy, so between now and then, this is what we need everyone to pitch in and do.  Please bring candy by the church office and we will direct you from there. God bless you and thank you so much!

How can I Be Better Informed about What’s Going On?
Drop by and take a look at our bulletin board in the lobby.  You will find it on the right-hand side of the hallway heading toward our church offices. Carol Berg-Saether has updated the area and creatively added new material to enjoy and stay informed.
The area includes a calendar of events, items for ICM, letters of gratitude we have received, and our budget which contains information about ministries we support and goals we’ve set for 2022.  There is also a section for those who might need help: 1) transportation: You can sign up to provide transportation for anyone who might need it. Also, 2) You can let us know if assistance is needed for things like yard work, and odd jobs.

Vision, Ministry and Growth
The following emerged out of recent meetings with Nominations and Leadership Development

We are in the process of establishing a team to reach out to each other including those who worship with us, are our guests or are referred to us by others.  Once this team is established, the team will also be involved in planning and implementation. We want to reach out to those who remain concerned about Covid who support mission, ministry, and worship online as well.

Ministry with children and youth continue to be a top priority and have been but we are making strides to provide a comprehensive children and youth ministry covering all ages. We are in the process of nominating folks to serve in these positions.  Some ideas that have been expressed is to have one evening when children and youth can come together and offer opportunities for spiritual growth, understanding of God’s word, music, crafts and activities plus a Bible study for parents on these evenings to participate in.

God bless you and Thank You for All the Ways You Give of your Prayers, Presence, Gifts, Service and Witness!

We continue to lift up Jesus Christ as the true light and hope of the world!  May God bless you richly, as God promises according to God’s word that God will bless you abundantly, pressed down shaken together, so there will not even be room enough to receive it.  God bless you for your love of Christ and the desire to make him known and further his mission, ministry and witness of Jesus Christ!

Office Hours for the Pastor: *I keep two offices: One at home. One on campus.
Monday:  Home office:  9 am – 12 pm. Campus:  Afternoon from 2 – 6 pm or later.
Tuesday – Thursday:  Home office: 9 am – 12 pm    Campus:  1 pm – 8:00 pm
Friday:  Day off.  I usually end up working in some way anyway. Many do not know it is my day off.
Saturday:  Home office in morning with updating prayer concerns, phone calls with those who need pastoral care or check on a few folks and update prayer list.  Afternoon:   2 – 3 hours prep going over sermon.
Sunday: other than leading worship in morning, this is usually a day of pastoral care, meetings, or sometimes even rest.

If you are planning to come to the office to visit or touch base, please call my cell before coming.  As I write this, I am thinking I have meeting with Open Door and clergy today (Wednesday) at noon and will be away for two hours for that not including travel. I have nominations, charge conference and Sunday coming. I have the meeting with the GMC and you tonight.  Next week, Monday and Tuesday most of the day, I have a meeting with the district in Wilkesboro for a study session on growing the church which was announced in last weeks newsletter.   I also try to go to hospitals and visit folks in our church in the afternoon and may do that around 3:00pm or 4:00 pm or visit in people’s homes then return to pick up at the office where I left off.   My priorities for visitation/pastoral care are emergencies, hospitals, nursing homes quarterly, those who live alone and are shut-ins quarterly, and then others who need me for pastoral care.  So, the best thing to do is call me before you come if you want to see me. My number is (704)-880-8953. PLEASE NOTE:  There are so many spam/high risk calls, I do not answer calls I do not recognize so BE SURE to leave a message. That way I will realize it was someone who knows me.  Then, when I realize I do know you, I will return your call.
